Greetings Relatives/Frens/Humans,
The Navajo Council is convening its annual five-day Fall Session at 10 am, Monday, 10.19.20. Navajo President Nez is scheduled to present the State of the Nation address Monday. I wonder if Nez will renew his request to the Council for more time to spend about $300M in CARES funds the Council appropriated to the Nez-lizer administration to provide direct COVID-19 relief aid, including PPEs, hand sanitizers, cleaning supplies, plexiglass, mental health services, etc.

Controller Pearline Kirk urged the Council to put $2M in unspent funds for 500 churches, the Dine’ hataliis Association, and Azee Bee Nahgha of Dine’ Nation Inc,into the Hardship Assistance pot because the Navajo Division of Social Services would not be able to spent the $2M by Dec. 30, the US Treasury deadline for the Navajo Nation and other Tribal Governments to spend CARES money. Kirk also recommended that the Council push all UNSPENT CARES dunds into the Hardship Assistance pot to increase the $50M that’s in the Hardship Assistance fund.

Day one of the annual quarterly Council sessions is to hear reports from the Nation’s three branch chiefs, Office of the Controller, Indian Health Services, Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc.

To find out when Hardship Assistance application are available, visit the Navajo Nation Office of the Controller website at: http://www.nnooc.org/CARESHelp.html
