Delegates Jonathan Nez and Walter Phelps successfully lead motion for suspension of floor rules for Committee to go to Item G – LEGISLATION 0159-14, the endorsement of US Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick.

REP. ANN KIRKPATRICK
I spoke on floor about protecting Navajo sovereignty by respecting government-to-government negotiations. We continue to work on amendments.
We reintroduced HB 5039 and when discussing Endangered Species Bill, i spoke about tribal sovereignty. I have been questioned about HB 5039 and I spoke with Navajo Hopi Land Commissioners Walter Phelps and Lorenzo Curley.

We are pushing to have hearings in September.

REP ANN KIRKPATRICK

DELEGATE KATHERINE BENALLy
It did pass out of House with land slide vote and Senate already passed. And President Obama said he would sign.

REP ANN KIRKPATRICK
It passed out of Committee and not House and it certainly will not pass Senate.

  1. Congrats to vote on behalf of Representative Kirkpatrick. She has done a lot for the Veterans on and off the Navajo Nation. We need housings and medical needs for Veteran. It’s hard to find employment for our Native Veterans alike. Endorsement is what will give her more latitude to make things happen to create more opportunities. Thank you, Representative Kirkpatrick.
