NAVAJO COUNCIL DEBATING LEGISLATION 0069-14, REMOVAL OF DELEGATE JOHNNY NAIZE AS SPEAKER. DELEGATE ALTON SHEPHERD SPONSORED 0069-14.
DELEGATE DAVID TOM
Delegate Simpson, when the Council votes this legislation down, will you bring it back again?
DELEGATE KATERINE BENALLY
You said you were asked to sponsor this legislation and I have texts that show that you offered things in return. And you also said that speaker abusing money. but u used legislative staff and time to push through this legislation. Be careful, Delegate Shepherd.
this legislation 0069-14 is coming from former President Shirley. you worked with Shirley. The very same day that I said that, Shirley’s former chief of staff Patrick Sandoval telephoned me and asked me for a meeting.
And I don’t subscribe to FaceBook and you make it sound like FB is holier than the Bible.
SPEAKER PRO TEMP EDMUND YAZZIE
Let’s be respectfully in our comments.
DELEGATE ALTON SHEPHERD
POINT OF ORDER
tHERE ARE COUNCIL RULES that require council delegates to sponsor legislation based on facts and not hearsay.
DELEGATE KATHERINE BENALLY
POINT OF ORDER The sponsor had ample time to prepare.
DELEGATE LEONARD PETE
If the criminal complaints against Speaker Naize are gong to be decided by the court, when will that happen?
DELEGATE KENNETH MARYBOY
I’m listening to debate and the question from Delegate Pete about how long will this matter be discussed and i have the same question. And the council has removed elected officials and it brings stress to families. we also discuss housing needs. Different media present their concern, including people on FaceBook. And there are other issues facing the nation, including various activities in Navajo Nation. and this legislation 0069-14 was brought to the council because of legal concerns brought by the special prosecutors. that first special prosecutors was hired and now he is gone. and new special prosecutors were hired. is that legal? so we need to step back and look at the other needs of our people. WE need to look at the reversion of federal funds.
THERE are a number of cases similar to this one before the court.
