Shiprock Chapter: Freedom of Speech for Everyone
January 6, 2014 Professional Journal

Greetings Relatives/Frens/Humans,
I’m here at the Shiprock, N.M., Chapter and the meeting has been called to order. It is now 4:30 pm

SHIPROCK COMMUNITY MEMBER FANNIE ETCITTY
I want only local people to speak and vote, not just anybody. Respect us. We don’t word to get out that we allow non-chapter members to vote. The rest of you from other chapters, please just listen.

THE CROWD NUMBERS ABOUT 100.

SHIPROCK CHAPTER PREZ DUANE “CHILI” YAZZIE
I disagree with FAnnie, everybody in here should be allowed to say something. When it comes down to main vote, it’s up to you.

COMMUNITY MEMBER BEVERLY MAXWELL
I support freedom of speech. We need to respect the women. Us, veterans served for purpose. We fought for freedom of speech. It’s not right to tell people that they can’t speak.

Vote on Substitute Motion by Chili Yazzie for Everyone to be allowed to Speak:
62 in favor, 6 opposed, 5 abstaining

FANNIE ETCITTY
I’d like clarification about Item C, Authorize Duane H. Yazzie to file for Injunction on BHP Mine Purchase. I’m looking at legal side and making sure that we are in order.

CHILI YAZZIE
To Fannie Etcitty, that is a good question and it will be answered when we get to that agenda item.
I want to tell guests that don’t understand Navajo or have difficulty understanding. We have verbatim translation so pick up ear phones. We are trying to bring in youth who don’t understand and speak Navajo. Rose Fasthorse Nofchissy is translating.
