Navajo Council’s Naabik’iyati Committee reconvenes

The Navajo Council’s Naabik’iyati Committee has reconvened at 12:01 p.m. The Naabik’iyati Committee is the Council’s top committee and consists of the members of the Council’s other four committees.

Fannie Silversmith, 81, of Lupton, Ariz., was the elder that fell from the top step of the Navajo Council gallery to the entrance floor of the Council chambers. An ambulance arrived and Silversmith was still awake when she was transported away. Her family members were in the gallery and they accompanied her.

Legislative staff are now reading the Naabik’iyati Committee’s proposed agenda. Motion to adopt agenda made by Committee members Duane Tsingine and Mel Begay.

Committee member/Council Delegate Nelson Begaye asks that the committee get to the business of the legislation and hold off on hearing reports.

Committee member Walter PHelps asks the committee remover Legislation 0057-14, “An Act relating to Law and Order; Health, Education and Human Services; Naabik’iyati; and the Navajo Nation Council; Enacting the Navajo Nation Public Health Act of 2014.”
His motion is seconded by Committee member/Delegate Jonathan Hale.
The committee vote to remove 0057-14 is 13 in favor, 0 opposed

Committee members/Delegates Nelson Begaye and Edmund Yazzie motion to remove reports to bottom of Committee agenda. The vote is 14 in favor, 0 opposed.

The Committee votes 14 in favor, 0 opposed to adopt agenda.
