Navajo law allows the council, by majority vote, to place the president and vice president or any other members on administrative leave without compensation if sufficient grounds exist for such action.

DELEGATE DANNY SIMPSON
I think that we can put speaker naize on administrative leave and have a speaker pro temp. and so i’d like to ask Delegate Alton Shepherd to work that compromise out in a separate legislation from 0069-14 and sponsor that legislation.

DELEGATE ALTON SHEPHERD
as i mentioned in my presentation, there are no specific laws to address this issue with our speaker. and i have sat down with speaker naize about other options. there needs to be provisions made to address this type of issue. and anyone of us delegates can develop legislation. and i also said during my presentation that i’ve taken a lot. but this legislation is here before the council.

for me, i’ve sat down with Naize, one on one. and the council can certainly change provisions in navajo law.

DELEGATE SIMPSON
i thot that there cud be a compromise but it appears that new legislation and laws need to be done.
