Bills on Indigenous rights go before Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee

The Navajo Nation Council Naabik’iyati is meeting tomorrow, May 25, and a couple of very important bills that deal with the rights of Indigenous people.

The bills are:

LEGOS;ATOPM.0165-17: An Action Relating to Naabik’íyáti’; Respectfully Requesting the United States of America to Implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples SPONSOR: Health, Education and Human Services Committee Chairperson and Council Delegate Jonathan L. Hale

G. LEGISLATION 0167-17: An Action Relating to Naabik’íyáti’ Committee; Respectfully Requesting the United States Government Incorporate the International Standard of Free, Prior and Informed Consent SPONSOR: Health, Education and Human Services Committee Chairperson and Council Delegate Jonathan L. Hale

It is critical that that individuals make their position known of whether they support or oppose Legislation 0165-17 and, or Legislation 0167-17. Your comments can be a short statement or as long as you want, but please email your comments to Navajo Nation Legislative Services Director Tom Platero at comments@navajo-nsn.gov or fax them to (928) 871-7259.
