NAVAJO COUNCIL RESOURCES & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE DRAGGING NAVAJO HOUSING AUTHORITY OVER THE COALS. NHA CEO ANEVA YAZZIE MADE A REPORT TO RDC, WHICH INCLUDED LETTER FROM US HOUSING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT ORDERING NHA TO RETURN $96 MILLION IN UNSPENT FEDERAL HOUSING FUNDS.

RDC MEMBER DELEGATE LEONARD TSOSIE
We asked for a report on the number of boarded up homes and where is it. I saw it Ojo Encino, Casamera Lake, Crownpoint. I see it everywhere but there’s no number. Maybe there’s no number cuz the numbers will be damaging. And this question comes from my constituents.

At Littlewater, NHA was forcing tenants to pay for street lights. Where else is this happening? It’s wrong.

NHA CEO YAZZIE
I wanted it recorded that I was handing out HUD letter and wanted it on record.

ACCORDING TO A COPY OF THE CERTIFIED JUNE 27, 2014, LETTER FROM HUD TO “TERMINATE $96,003,830 FROM NHA’S CURRENT IHBG (INDIAN HOUSING BLOCK GRANT) BALANCE.”

ACCORDING TO A COPY OF A JULY 8, 2014, LETTER TO RDC CHAIRPERSON KATHERINE BENALLY FROM NHA CEO YAZZIE, “NHA HAS 30 DAYS TO REQUEST AN ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING TO REVIEW HUD’S NOTICE. THE NHA WILL BE FILING ITS REQUEST FOR AN ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING.”

NHA CEO YAZZIE
I hope that it is not too late to work with RDC. I apologize. I’d like to recommend a day long workshop so that NHA could update RDC.

RDC CHAIRPERSON BENALLY
Please provide a list of homeowners that are waiting for titles from BIA.
And why would Navajo Oil & Gas provide funding to NHA?
We need to rally together to save the federal housing money for our people.
And we’ll schedule a work session as soon as possible and a tour.
You took all your concerns to Naabik’iyati Committee and Naabi passed legislation for Congressional support for NHA but when NHA went to Washington, D.C., no Naabi members went with NHA. It was sad. But NHA has RDC.
HUD’s recommendation from to take TDHE (Tribally Designated Housing Entity) from NHA and renew the NHA Board or replace NHA Board. WE have done neither. That is why I was so perturbed with Council. NHA is not the problem. It’s the Council cuz Council refused to renew TDHE and NHA Board. And the NHA Board should have stepped up to say that their terms were expired and the attorneys
our pple should not live the way they do with $400 million stashed away by NHA. A NHA board would have fired a CEO that was not carrying out the intent of the federal housing funds. But no, our NHA Board has no conscience.
I can’t wait for July 16, 2014.
You went on radio and newspaper blasting RDC member Delegate Leonard Tsosie and me.
