I’M BACK AT NAVAJO COUNCIL WHERE DEBATES CONTINUES ON LEGISLATION 0369-12 WHICH IS FOR COUNCIL TO AUTHORIZE REFERENDUM FOR NAVAJO PEOPLE TO AMEND NAVAJO LAW BY REMOVING COUNCIL AS GOVERNING BODY AND RETURNING THE PEOPLE AS GOVERNING BODY.

According to a report from Navajo Government Development Office Caleb Roanhorse to chapter, the three branch government was never approved by the people and so could that be made a part of the referendum.

Does the language affirm three branch government? It does and it doesn’t. It affirms that there will be Legislative Branch. This referendum amends specific part of law. It doesn’t speak to whether Executive Branch and Judicial Branch exists but it also does not remove them.

The only branch that received delegated powers from the people is Legislative Branch and so how does that work with Judicial Branch and decision by Navajo Nation Supreme Court regarding the reduction of the 88 Council to 24. Chief Justice Herb Yazzie never addresed where Judicial Branch received its powers.
