(5) Farmington Public Meeting – Tell U.S. Bureau of Land Management to STOP illegal fracking.
FRACK FREE NEW MEXICO – Friends — we’re about to get fracked to hell without your help.

Already New Mexico has made national headlines for the nation’s biggest methane plume. Meanwhile, more than 100 “exploratory” wells in the Mancos Shale have already been drilled without proper oversight. BLM is set to lease 20,000 acres of oil and gas development in the Santa Fe National Forest and plans to lease an additional 2,800 acres of Navajo Allotment and BLM land overlying federal minerals around the greater Chaco Canyon area for Mancos Shale drilling.

Now, Denver-based Saddle Butte LLC has applied for a permit to build a 130-mile pipeline from Lybrook to I-40, cutting between Chaco Culture National Historical Park and outlier Pueblo Pintado.

The Piñon Pipeline would quadruple capacity for oil transportation in the San Juan Basin, which the industry is eyeing for a shale-oil boom. Oil companies say a pipeline is needed to get the oil to market.

We can’t let the BLM sacrifice our air, water, climate, and culture for corporate profits.

Tell the BLM: Reject the Piñon Oil Pipeline! Cut fracking in New Mexico!

The pipleline infrastructure would permanently cut through Navajo, federal, state and private lands, bringing thousands of new oil wells, millions of gallons of contaminated groundwater, damaged archeological sites, diminished recreation economy, and oil spills and accidents that threaten water supplies and public health.

The BLM says it has not conducted any environmental-impact study to determine the climate consequences of the proposed pipeline or considered a health-impact assessment.

Due to public pressure and a request by U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján, the BLM has agreed to hold public meetings and extend public comment on the Piñon Oil Pipeline. It’s important we use these to make our voices heard.

There are three public meetings (Farmington, N.M., Lybrook, N.M., and Santa Fe, N.M.). Please make sure your voice is heard.
