The Asaayii Fire is at 98 percent containment! That’s the latest update on the Asaayii Fire from the Southwest Area Interagency Type 3 Team.

And since the fire is at 98 percent, the SW Type 3 Team will be handing back the control of the fire to the local firefighters, which is the U.S. Department of the Interior Navajo Region Forestry Department’s Navajo Fire Management Program, at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

Beulah Woodie will be the Type 4 Incident Commander for the BIA Navajo Fire Management Program.

According to the JUNE 30 NEWS RELEASE from the SW Area Interagency Type 3 Team, “All the firefighters and equipment working for the Southwest Area Interagency Type 3 team will be released by close of business June 30, 2014 and made available for other fires in the region.”

The SW Type 3 Team also reported, “When the fire is 100% contained the next step for firefighters is to bring the entire fire under control. Control means the fire is dead out — no hot spots, no floating embers, nothing that will flare up again even if winds pick up.”

All social media and phone numbers for the fire were discontinued at noon today, June 30.
