Will Navajo Council’s Resources & Development Committee rescind its controversial in-situ uranium mining legislation?

Greetings Relatives/Frens/Humans,
I’m here at the Navajo Nation Council’s Resources and Development Committee meeting in the Navajo Council chambers at Window Rock, Ariz. RDC member Delegate George Apachito’s Legislation 0104-14 is on the RDC agenda. Legislation 0104-14 is to rescind the RDC’s Legisation RDCD-69-13, which created a Subcommittee of the RDC to work on drafting an agreement between Uranium Resources Inc/Hydo-Uranium Resouces Inc. of Texas for URI/HRI to construct and operate an In-Situ Uranium Mining Demonstration Project near Church Rock, NM.

The RDC’s actions also acknowledged the right-of-way and surface use by URI/HRI of its Church Rock properties, which were licensed by the U.S. Regulatory Commission license #SUA-1580.

Legislation 0104-14 is the fourth legislation on the RDC agenda. It’s now 11:38 a.m. and the RDC is having a very lengthy discussion with Navajo Area Bureau of Indian Affairs administrator Harold Riley regarding road issues and concerns. Riley’s report on Navajo Reservation roads was the first item on the RDC agenda.
