Navajo President Shelly vetoed Navajo Council’s emergency legislation to let voters decide if candidate qualified

I just received notification at 3:04 p.m. that Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly vetoed Navajo Nation Council’s EMERGENCY LEGISLATION that amended the qualification section of tribal election law by adding language for voters to decide with vote if candidate is qualified. The Council’s legislation, which was passed in the early morning hours of Oct. 24, 2014, made the additional language to the election code regarding qualifications for candidate retroactive to when an individual filed to be a candidate.

I am waiting for the president’s public information officer to email the president’s memo that explains why he vetoed the Council’s emergency legislation.
