Navajo Human Rights Commission: People have right to govern their own lands

HERE AT NAVAJO COUNCIL WHERE COUNCIL HAS BEEN CHALLENGED TO RETURN THE GOVERNING POWER OF THE NAVAJO PEOPLE BACK TO THE NAVAJO PEOPLE THROUGH THE COUNCIL’S APPROVAL OF LEGISLATION 0369-12 WHICH WOULD HAVE THE COUNCIL AUTHORIZE A REFERENDUM FOR THE NAVAJO PEOPLE TO AMEND LAW BY REMOVING THE COUNCIL AS THE GOVERNING BODY AND RETURNING THAT POWER TO THE NAVAJO PEOPLE.

DELEGATE DWIGHT WITHERSPOON
Amendment One from Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission and the Commission is recommending language for the Council to approve as part of the referendum which would recognize the right of the Navajo peole to govern their own lands and territories and that the Navajo people have full right to govern lands.

This language has to go through the legislative process.

New language cannot change the intent of a legislation.
