COUNCIL VOTES ON AMENDMENT 2, APPROPRIATING $317,000 TO NAVAJO ELECTION OFFICE, 6 in favor, 13 opposed

DELEGATE LEONARD TSOSIE
Looking at Delegate Jonathan Nez’s cell phone, he has “bro” next to some of his Council delegates but he hasn’t put “bro” next to mine. maybe one of these days.

the legislative branch needs reorganization. why do we have entire legislation read into record? just have summary. why do we have to read agenda when we have copy in front of us. if we do that then we could have some savings which would be used for elders.

hopefully next president come in and sit down with council to provide for services for people and make government strong again.

DELEGATE EDMUND YAZZIE
i was waiting for presidential candidate who would say that he’d work with council. We should allow next Council to make decision. MOTION TO TABLE UNTIL NEXT COUNCIL ADDRESSES, SECOND BY DELEGATE DUANE TSINIGINE

DELEGATE DANNY SIMPSON
I like to believe we are here for reason. We adopted agenda so why are we here and next week. This legislation is using funds that were vetoed and that are idling in budget. And Law and Order Committee never hears from Navajo Division of Public Safety. we are only asking to use $247,000 of $1.7 million. We keep saying that we are going to leave up to next Council. but this 22nd Navajo council and we should take action or just go home and wait for next council. We’re going to be on next council as well. so ask council to vote down Tabling Motion so we can provide jobs for people.

SPEAKER PRO TEM BATES EXPLAINS THAT TABLING PAST DEC. 31, 2014, KILLS LEGISLATION 0314-14.

VOTE ON TABLING, 4 in favor, 13 opposed so TABLING FAILS
