Navajo Council Resources & Development Committee sanctions Teec Nos Pos Chapter

Navajo Council’s Resources & Development Committee finished listening to Reports on their Agenda today, Feb. 24. RDC is now on Legislation and their first Legislation is 0051-15: Accepting the follow-up review of Teec Nos Pos Chapter Corrective Action Plan implementation and imposing sanctions against Tec Nos Pos Chapter and officials for failure to implement the Corrective Action Plan. SPONSOR, DELEGATE DAVID FILFRED

RDC MEMBER LEONARD PETE
We need to get this vehicle (Teec Nos Pos chapter) out of the mud.

AUDITOR GENERAL’S OFFICE STAFF
The chapter determines how long sactions are in place. If they implement Corrective Action Plan, they can come to Auditor General in six months and show that they resolved COA. If Auditor General sees that COA issues resolved then Auditor General send letter to Controller to lift sanctions. But the duration of the sanction depends on the chapter. You probably have heard about Sawmill chapter, which is now in its tenth year of sanction.

RDC MEMBER WALTER PHELPS
My thought is we can approve this and allow them to return in 60 days and show that COA being implemented so we can see that the chapter is not having problems hiring staff to implement the COA. Othewise Teec Nos Pos could go down the same road as Sawmill Chapter.

NAVAJO ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE CENTER DIRECTOR ROBERT BEGAY
Other staff members from other chapters are coming to Teec Nos Pos to help implement COA. Right now Teec Nos Pos has no staff. There is some history to the Teec Nos Pos audit.

RDC VOTES 3 IN FAVOR, 0 OPPOSED FOR TEEC NOS POS TO BE SANCTIONED AND TO RETURN TO RDC IN 60 DAYS TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE IMPLEMENTING CORRECTING AUDIT ISSUES.
