Amendment 1 – PAGE 2, LINE 24: strike language “There is a high regard for individual liberty on Navajo Nation as reflected in the expression, ‘T’aabi boholniih’ roughly translated as ‘it is up to the individual.’ This biise’silei requires that” AND replace with “Individuals with disabilities be allowed a maximum degree of independence and be included as much as possible in decision-making about important aspects of their life, such as where they will live, their health care or their finances, and who may speak or act on their behalf.”

PAGE 3, LINE 8 – NEW LANGUAGE: Due to a disability or illness, an individual’s ability to think and plan, nitsahakees nahat’a, may become interrupted and they need help, a balance must be found between providing assistance and respecting the individual’s autonomy. It must not be forgotten that in Dine’ teachings, a human being is more than their limitations. As human beings, individuals with disabilities have hopes and dreams to live a life of fulfillment into old age.” AND delete “sa’ah naaghei bik’eh hozhoon niidii” after “age”.
