Navajo Council adds emergency bills opposing reassignment of Navajo Area BIA director

Here at Navajo Council. It’s 2:13 pm. Council returned from lunch recess and Delegate Leonard Tsosie has made a motion to add two emergency legislation. And now he’s arguing that the two emergency bills be placed at the front of the Council agenda. But legislation counsel levon henry advised council that their rules and Navajo law mandates that legislation that requires 2/3 vote is at front of agenda and that the two bills that Tsosie will be placed after 2/3 votes. Speaker Pro Tem Seth Damon says the two bills will become agenda items H and I.

The emergency bills oppose the reassignment of Navajo Area BIA Director Sharon Pinto and the Interior’s reorganization’s of the BIA. Delegate Nathaniel Brown informed the Gallup Independent yesterday, April 17, that the Interior plans to move the Navajo Area BIA office which is in Gallup, NM, to Las Vegas, Nevada.
