Naabik’iyati Committee approves 4 bills without debate and adjourns

Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee, without debate, approves LEGISLATION 0108-14, approving and authorizing a Model 108 contract between Navajo Nation and the U.S. Department of the Interior for the planning and design of the San Juan Basin Irrigation Rehabilitation Project with a VOTE of 11 in favor, 0 opposed.

The Committee also approved, without debate, LEGISLATION 0116-14, confirming the appointments of Sharon Jackson, Vivian Arviso, Shirley Montoya, Lolita Paddock, and Charlotte Begay to the Navajo Women’s Commission, each for a four-year term. The VOTE was 12 in favor, 0 opposed.

Also, without debate, the Committee approved LEGISLATION 0121-14, Confirming the appointment of Mark C. Graham to the Navajo Tax Commission for a five-year term with a VOTE of 12 in favor, 1 opposed.

The Committee also approved without debate LEGISLATION 0122-14, accepting the Fort Wingate Task Force memorandum supporting H.R. 3822 “The Fort Wingate Land Division Act of 2014” and documenting the Navajo Nation’s support of U.S. House Bill H.R. 3822, The Fort Wingate Division Act of 2014. The VOTE was 12 in favor, 2 opposed.

Naabik’iyati Committee adjourns at 2:25 p.m.

The Committee did not act on LEGISLATION 0123-14, REFERRING A REFERENDUM TO THE PEOPLE AND LEGISLATION 0135-14, CREATING AN INTERVIEWING SUBCOMMITTEE COMPOSED OF FIVE MEMBERS ONE FROM EACH OF THE NAVAJO COUNCIL STANDING COMMITTEES TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS AND SETTING INTERVIEW DATES TO FILL ALL EIGHT POSITIONS ON THE NAVAJO HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD because the Committee voted to delete 0124-14 and 0135-14 after the Committee was informed that the Sponsors would not be present.
