Here at Navajo Council Naabik’iyati Committee

The Naabik’iyati Committee has started. It’s now 11:34 am. Former Navajo Nation Chairperson Peter MacDonald Sr., as president of the Navajo Code Talkers Association, is here. Accompanying him is Navajo Code Talker Association Vice President Ray Hawthorne. I asked why they were at Naabi meeting and MacDonald joking answered that he wanted to know if the Council had changed. I asked if he and Mr. Hawthorne came because of Delegate Joshua Butler’s legislation 0078-14: opposing the use of disparaging references to Native people in professional sports franchises. MacDonald said yes and added that he wanted to correct some disparaging remarks being made about him and the Navajo Code Talkers regarding the NFL Red Skins.

The proposed Naabi AGENDA that was posted on the Navajo Council’s website appears to be a bit different from what was handed out here at the Naabi meeting.
