DELEGATE JONATHAN NEZ
If we pass this legislation, does it mean that those of us that don’t read and write Navajo will be disqualified BECAUSe reading and writing Navajo is one of qualifications for a candidate.

DELEGATE JOSH BUTLER
You all know what happened in Tuba City Chapter, all officials removed from office regarding misappropriation of funds. the problem is they were removed but followup process to complete investigatoin and convictions has no timeline and this falls under Law and Order Committee which Delegate Shepherd sits on. They may be able to delay and delay and that wud result in them walking away. Urge Law and Order Committee and Council to lok at portion of Navajo law regarding Removal of Election Officials.

And the way legislation written, I’m not sure if support. Also section explained by attorney regarding five years allows them to refile for elected office again in five years.

Law has no teeth and why low voter turnout and participation. People have lost confidence in their tribal govt and why they don’t want to vote. We have less voters, even before purging.

DELEGATE JONATHAN HALE
