Completing four-lanes between Gallup-Shiprock, NM, in 2 years

RDC now on LEGISLATION 0167-14: An action relating to Resources and Development; amending Resources Committee Resolution No. RCJY-70-09 by increasing the acreage of the construction maintenance easement acreage portion from 167.64 to 169.685 acres and temporary construction permits from 2.81 to 4.564 acres, more or less, adjacent to and within the previously approved U.S. Highway 491 (South segment) from Sheep Springs South to Twin Lakes vicinity, San Juan and McKinley Counties, New Mexico Sponsor: Hon. Mel R. Begay, Council Delegate

This is about four-lane road from Gallup, NM, to Shiprock, NM. This has support of NM Gov. Martinez and Navajo elected officials, including President Shelly.

$87 million allocated by NM Gov. Martinez to complete project and we need additional land.

This project is 13 years old and we have funding to complete the project and received unexpectedly and we pulled designs off shelf to complete drainage but need about 2 more acres, which are outside right-of-way so here to ask for additional 2 acres.
hoPE TO start in September and have four lane project in two years. WE have design engineer Leo Archuleta and Donald Trujillo.

when have groundbreaking don’t just invite Sen. Pinto. I talked with Gov. Richardson. Sen. Pinto willing to go with enhanced two lane and I opposed. I supported four lanes. thank NM for keeping word. This final 21 miles will make four lanes all around Navajo Reservation.

thank you to Govs. Richardson and Martinez. I’d like to say that NM state road from Arizona boundary to Farmington, NM, is in great need of same attention as US Highway 491.
